At Follow Your Art, young artists are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild!
In early development, a child’s creativity is unrestrained and beautiful. A young child’s artwork may look a lot like scribbles, maybe even a mess! However, it is important to understand that children learn by making scribbles and messes.
Art for a child is so much more than messy playtime, it stimulates the senses. Art is an essential building block for developing minds. As children draw, paint, and sculpt, they are experiencing the world around them and expressing how they see colors and shapes. Creating art teaches children about planning, trying out new things, and solving problems. Art encourages fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities. As children mix paints, they learn to understand one thing can change another. Drawing, cutting with scissors, and even simply tearing a piece of paper are all tasks that develop dexterity – and kids love doing them!
Art allows children to make choices. They learn to become more comfortable as they make choices, which is key for creativity and confidence. The best way for children is to experience art allowing them to explore materials in their own ways. They will learn more and enjoy art more when they can make their own artwork. Art should be a time for children to express their ideas and experiment with materials. At Follow Your Art, children’s ideas are encouraged to come out.
Not only does art spark a child’s creativity but it also is a healthy outlet for feelings. Art can help a child articulate their thoughts and emotions. It can allow a child to say what may be difficult to express with words. Art can soothe and improve a child’s mood by calming the mind and body.
